National Thank You Day + SERT #3

National Thank You DayI saw this billboard near the Quezon Ave. MRT station yesterday and its about the country celebrating a National Thank You Day. The curious george that I was searched and came across the site and read what its all about, as soon as I got in the office.

I’d like to think that aside from a chocolate company creating and capitalizing on a new holiday (much like those greeting card events), its also a genuine way of reminding people to be grateful of what they have and who they are.

That made me think of the things I want to be grateful for. So here I am to list down about 10 things I’m most thankful for in my life:

  1. For a great mommy-friendly job (flexi time anyone?)
  2. A little girl that fills my heart with joy just by thinking of her
  3. A husband who is dependable
  4. Time, talents and treasures to spend and share with others
  5. Being able to eat the food we want (chickenjoy lang masaya na kami)
  6. Having family we can count on
  7. Having friends we can turn to
  8. Our health
  9. Practicing the faith that we chose to grow with
  10. Having our own means of transportation

Writing these then alone made me realize that I actually have more than ten things to be thankful for. This is a nice practice. You should do that too. So I’m tagging anyone who reads this to write 10 things to be grateful for.

One more thing…

I would like to agree on the site about Manila being one of the least courteous cities in Asia. Its based on this Reader’s Digest article.

When I’m abroad (which is not often), I would be surprised at people greeting me “Hi” or “How are you?”. The timid filipina that I am would only manage a faint smile and sometimes a mumbled “I’m fine, thanks”. Then scurry away like a scaredy cat.

Why shy away when you can give someone a “Hello” yourself or ask them how their day’s going? Try to open or hold doors for people or say a simple “thank you” when someone does something for you, even if its the household help. You’ll never know the simple things you do can actually mean a whole lot of encouragement for someone else.

Reminds me of the movie “Pay It Forward”. Haven’t seen it yet? Watch it at home with your S.O. or your family.
